Universal Music Group is currently seeking a Director, Publicity in our New York, NY office location: Universal Music Group is the largest music company in the world. We’re in over 70 countries, have nearly 11,000 employees, and are the market leaders in North America, Europe and Latin America. No other music company can offer opportunities as dynamic or far reaching. We are looking for a Director, Publicity who will be responsible for entire press campaigns for all high profile artists while creating and implementing full national campaigns for select artist in the online space at our Hollywood location. Job Description: • Pitch story ideas, arrange and facilitate artist interviews and photo shoots for print and online media • Pursue television opportunities when available • Organize artist press trips- book all travel, coordinate daily itineraries • Hire photographers and orchestrate publicity photo shoots • Hire independent PR firm, oversee their press campaigns and continuously supply information; liaise between PR firm and artist management and staff • Oversee and approve artist biographies • Oversee and approve press releases and service to journalists • Liaise with other departments on cross promotion • Work with publicity department to utilize their resources when applicable • Compile artist press kits • Organize weekly press reports • Update and maintain database • Organize mailings to journalists, and send out packages as requested • Process invoices for indies, photographers, etc.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree qualified or equivalent with at least 5-10 years music industry experience with an emphasis on consumer-driven marketing • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including: PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Word • Strong communication abilities with the ability to write and convey marketing plans/efforts to executives and management • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, including adaptability, personal effectiveness, and the ability to establish quick rapport • Must have excellent written and oral communications skills • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills a must, as is the ability to juggle many tasks at one time and change gears quickly • Must be highly self-motivated and the ability to thrive independently in a flexible, fast-paced team environment • Job requires working non-traditional hours and occasional weekend • Travel Required
