Dear Sir/Madam,

I am a recent graduate from the University of California-Berkeley. By double majoring in economics and interdisciplinary research, I have been able to combine my love for economic theory with my passion for solving complex modern business issues using innovative, forward-thinking research methods. My economics coursework focused primarily on industrial organization, financial economics, and econometrics. Through my interdisciplinary research coursework, I conducted extensive empirical research on the economics and business structures of the music industry, considering all aspects from marketing models to pricing strategies. I have taken mathematical and coding classes beyond my major requirements simply due to a desire to learn as much as possible. While these advanced courses were not required for either of my majors, they provided me with indispensable expertise in subjects such as multivariable calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, object-oriented programming, and more. By taking these classes in addition to my major courses, I have developed a rare skillset combining quantitative skills and qualitative analytical abilities that can be applied to research or financial analysis in almost any industry. My interdisciplinary research major combined theories of pricing, marketing, econometric regression, and analytical statistics in an empirical study of pricing policies within the music streaming industry – in this paper, I successfully predicted the tiered-subscription pricing approach that SoundCloud and other services have been recently employing. Along with mathematical and statistical skills, I have developed advanced skills in R, Stata, Python, SQL, Excel, and other computational data programs. In addition, I have displayed the ability to deliver high-quality work product both individually and as a member of a team through prior internships and college experiences. As social chair of my fraternity, I coordinated countless large-scale social events and developed interpersonal skills that will benefit me tremendously in any industry. I am currently working with an anti-scalping ticket startup, which has provided with me indispensable insight into the business operations of startups as well as insight into the workings of the live concert industry. I am confident that my combination of extensive industry knowledge, intense passion for research, first-hand experience, and great interpersonal skills give me a rare, unique skillset that will give me a significant advantage over my peers entering the job market.
