Description
As a recent double major graduate many would think I don’t have time to think about my animal of preference. However, I’ve managed to put the romance novels, Electronic Dance music and Track and Field meets aside. All to create the idea of how the okapi represents much of who I am and my life interests. A misconception about the okapi is that it’s a hybrid. However, it’s a pure breed. When people see me they have a hard time defining my ethnicity. Some say I’m Caucasian or Asian but like the okapi I’m not a mixture of different ethnicities. All of my family members originated in Mexico, leading to my fluency in Spanish and English. The okapi species has traveled the world due to speculations on its existence. My travels have been for leisure and internships but nonetheless. During my times abroad I became highly interested in cross-cultural communication. Although it doesn’t seem to connect to the okapi, it actually relates to it. In that if the okapi were a hybrid it would be intriguing to research how the species having nothing in common were able to communicate and come about the creation. Cross-cultural communication is of high interest to me. During an internship I communicated with a variety of clients, whom didn’t speak Spanish or English. Moments when communication issues arise due to languages barriers I find myself in a tough situations, but it’s these situations that bring excitement and the best out of me. I am a detail-oriented perfectionist that can manage many tasks at once. Yet under these circumstances I become a quicker innovator, more persistent and diligent. There is no time to be shy about the situation. I’ve done some of the most abrupt things to successfully get my message across while using non-verbal communication and my knowledge of language. My attraction for the okapi is endless but I’ll leave the other stories for an in person meeting with a future employer.
